Best random video chat sites in 2026: eight services compared honestly

Since Omegle closed in 2023 the random video chat field has split into free roulette sites, coin-based 1v1 services and mobile apps. We run one of them, so read this as a comparison from inside the industry: the numbers are from each service's public site or store listing as of September 2026, the judgements are ours, and the table is the same one we use to decide what to build next.

1. GoLive Chat — best for 1v1 conversations without an app

Ours, so weigh accordingly. What it does differently: an anonymous account created on tap (no phone number, email or password), a free country filter, an adults-only queue, profiles and free text chat so a good call can continue, and a desktop layout. The cost is the trade-off: after 10 free matches a random 1v1 call is 5 coins, which the 200 welcome coins cover about 40 times over. That small cost is also why the queue has few bots. 2. Chatroulette — best fully free classic

The original, still free, still in the browser, still no account. Moderation has improved a lot with automated image screening. No filters at all, so the queue is global and mixed, and you will meet bots and spam streams. If you want the pure 2009 experience, this is it. How GoLive compares.

3. OmeTV — biggest free crowd, filters in VIP

Huge audience, apps and web, built-in translation and a social layer with profiles and followers. Country and gender selection exist, but reliable filtering is what VIP is for; the free queue is noisy. No stated age gate. Compared with GoLive.

4. Emerald Chat — best interest matching

The closest thing to Omegle's interest tags: match by topics, optional accounts, karma system, Gold for filters. Smaller than OmeTV, cleaner than the clones. Good if you want a conversation about something specific rather than a random face.

5. Azar — best app, at a price

6. Monkey — best for a younger crowd, social login required

Fast, fun, big Gen-Z audience, text and video. Requires a one-tap social login, has no country filter and no stated in-app age gate, which is exactly what makes some people look for a Monkey alternative.

7. CooMeet — best if you want verified women and will pay per minute

A different product: men are matched with verified women, and calls are billed by the minute (10 minutes for $5 on the site). Reliable for what it promises; expensive for long conversations. CooMeet vs GoLive.

8. The "Omegle" clones — avoid unless you know the operator

Dozens of sites use the Omegle name. Some are ordinary roulette sites; some ask for card details or app installs before showing a single match. The original closed in November 2023 and is not coming back — details in Is Omegle back? and the Omegle alternative page.

How we tested

For each service we did the same thing on the same day in September 2026: opened it on an iPhone in Safari and on a laptop in Chrome, went through sign-up as a new user, made twenty random matches with no filters, then twenty with a country filter where one exists, and noted four things — how long sign-up took and what it asked for, how many of the forty matches were bots or clearly not adults, whether the report button was reachable during a call, and what the first paid action cost. Prices are from each service's own store or listing on that day; where a service shows different prices by region we used the US price. We did not test moderation response times (that needs weeks, not a day) and we did not count "quality of conversation", which depends on the hour and the queue more than on the service.

Two caveats. First, GoLive is ours, and we have tried to score it by the same rules — the smaller off-peak queue is listed as its weakness because it is one.
